This site is owned and operated by Salinas Valley Half Marathon Promotions (SVHM). Your privacy on the Internet is of the utmost importance to us. We want to make your experience online satisfying and safe. Because we gather certain types of information about our users, we feel you should fully understand our policy and the terms and conditions surrounding the capture and use of that information. This privacy statement discloses what information we gather and how we use it.
- Information that users provide through optional, voluntary submissions via www.salinasvalleyhalfmarathon.org to receive our electronic news updates, to participate in our message boards or blog, and from participation in polls and surveys;
- Information SVHM gathers through aggregated tracking information derived mainly by tallying page views throughout our site. This information allows us to better tailor our content to readers’ needs and to help us better understand the demographics of our audience.
- SVHM has partnered with the Active Network, Inc., South Valley Endurance, and Salinas Community YMCA to register you for SVHM events. Active, South Valley Endurance and the Salinas Community YMCA have agreed to provide SVHM with personal information collected from people who make use of their services. However, be aware that Active, South Valley Endurance, and the Salinas Community YMCA operate independently from and have privacy and security policies wholly different from SVHM. Please contact Active (www.activenetwork.com/privacy-policy.htm) and/or South Valley Endurance (http://www.svendurance.com) and/or the Salinas Community YMCA (http://www.centralcoastymca.org/default.asp?ID=18) to consult their privacy policies. During the registration process SVHM, through Active, South Valley Endurance, and the Salinas Community YMCA obtains personally identifiable information about you which may include your first and last name, home or other physical address including a street name or the name of your city or town, your email address, telephone number, age, gender, t-shirt size, and credit card information.

SVHM gathers personal information about participants as described above when you register online at Active.
Training Program Registration Information
SVHM gathers personal information about participants as described above when you register at the Salinas Community YMCA.
Optional Voluntary Information
We offer the following free services, which require some type of voluntary submission of personal information by users:
- Electronic newsletters policy: We will offer a free electronic newsletter. SVHM gathers the email addresses of users who voluntarily subscribe. Users may remove themselves from this mailing list by following the link provided in every newsletter that points users to the subscription management page.
- Surveys: SVHM may occasionally conduct user surveys to better target our content to our audience. We sometimes share the aggregated demographic information in these surveys with our partners. We never share any information about specific individuals with any third party.
Website Usage Tracking
SVHM tracks user traffic patterns throughout our site. However, we do not correlate this information with data about individual users. SVHM does break down overall usage statistics according to a user’s domain name, browser type, and MIME type by reading this information from the browser string (information contained in every user’s browser).
SVHM tracks and catalogs the search terms that users enter in their browser, but this tracking is never associated with individual users. We use tracking information to determine which areas of our site users like and don’t like based on traffic to those areas. We do not track what individual users read, but rather how well each page performs overall. This helps us continue to build a better online experience for you.
Cookies
We may place a text file called a “cookie” in the browser files of your computer. The cookie itself does not contain Personal Information although it will enable us to relate your use of this site to information that you have specifically and knowingly provided. But the only personal information a cookie can contain is information you supply yourself. A cookie can’t read data off your hard disk or read cookie files created by other sites. SVHM uses cookies to track user traffic patterns (as described above). Our advertising system delivers a one-time cookie to better track ad impressions and click rates. You can refuse cookies by turning them off in your browser. If you’ve set your browser to warn you before accepting cookies, you will receive the warning message with each cookie. You do not need to have cookies turned on to use this site. However, you do need cookies to participate actively in message boards, forums, polling and surveys.
USE AND SHARING OF INFORMATION
SVHM stores and uses the personal information gathered during the registration process to facilitate race registration and event management, including to generate and provide bib numbers, to access and provide emergency contact information to medical or safety personnel if necessary, and to keep registrants apprised of instructions and changes to event details. This registrant information will be available to Active, South Valley Endurance, and the Salinas Community YMCA , who are providing registration and fulfillment services for SVHM.
SVHM may also provide finisher data (name, address and event) to the official race photographer for the one-time purpose of mailing a finisher photo proof for consideration with no obligation to purchase.
SVHM may also provide finisher data (name, age, hometown, race category, etc.) to media wishing to report on race results and highlights.
SVHM will maintain a database of all registrants, as well as of individuals who sign up for email newsletters on the SVHM website for email and other marketing purposes.
SVHM does not sell, rent or provide your non-public personal information to anyone other than as stated above. Unless required by subpoena or other court order, SVHM will not disclose or share your personally identifiable information with any individual, organization, company or non-affiliated third party. SVHM may, however, at its sole discretion, share statistical data with race sponsors, partners, affiliates or media agencies. Statistical data does not include personally identifiable information about any individual and is used for quantitative purposes only.
SECURITY
OPT-OUT POLICY
We give users opt-out options wherever necessary and practical. Such choices include:
- Opting not to participate in certain interactive areas of our website.
- Opting not to register to receive our electronic newsletters.
- At any time, users may send an email to director@salinasvalleyhalfmarathon.org to be removed from receiving electronic newsletters.
CHILDREN
Consistent with the Federal Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998 (COPPA), we will never knowingly request personally identifiable information from anyone under the age of 13 without requesting parental consent.
